Tax Series for Startups [Recap]

We tackled all things taxes during the month of March. Our exclusive Pennovation Works Tax Series
program was designed to help members propel their businesses forward through one-on-one sessions
and webinars with tax professionals from Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), Stephano Slack and EisnerAmper.

Alafia Simmons, University City KIZ Coordinator, joined us at the Pennovation Center for our monthly member breakfast, and afterwards provided office hours to answer questions about KIZ tax credits. These credits offer early-stage tech and life sciences companies up to $100,000 annually in sellable tax credits from a statewide pool of up to $15 million.

Representatives from Stephano Slack held Tax Prep Office Hours to discuss 1099 compliance, tax forms, and document checklists. As long-time partners of PCI Ventures and the Pennovation Center,
Stephano Slack has experience working with startup companies of various stages. They are committed to providing privately owned businesses with timely, reliable financial information, as well as creative business and tax advice necessary to achieve their goals.

And last but not least, we enjoyed an informative presentation by John Pennett, Partner-in-Charge of the National Technology and Life Sciences Group at EisnerAmper. During this lunchtime webinar John guided founders and CEOs through tax-related topics including qualified research expenses, capital gains, and additional R&D tax credits. View a recording of the webinar to learn more about key attributes to becoming an investable company.
